Russia launched a wave of overnight drone and missile attacks on at least seven Ukrainian cities.
A nationwide air alert was put in place as drones and hypersonic, ballistic and cruise missiles targeted Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, Lviv and Konotop in the early hours of Friday morning.
Kyiv’s military administration said five buildings were set alight in the capital and reported “many wounded”. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said seven people have been hospitalised.
At least one civilian was killed and eight others injured when more than 20 missiles struck the north-eastern city of Kharkiv, local officials said.
Authorities in Lviv, in the west, said a “critical infrastructure” facility was on fire there after 10 Shahed drones attacked the city.
“We haven’t seen so much red on our monitors for a very long time,” said Yuri Ignat, the Ukrainian air force spokesman. “In all areas, in all directions.”
The overnight attacks came just days after Ukraine struck a Russian warship in the occupied Crimean port of Feodosia in a major setback for Moscow’s naval forces.
