Matt Williams, founder of the The Oxford Charcoal Company, says that, as well as the different types of fuel, pizza ovens come in different shapes and sizes. Whether you want to go for a freestanding, portable or barbecue-top pizza oven will depend on how much you want to spend and how many friends you want to feed.
“Being able to recreate that incredible wood-fired flavour and texture in your own garden is the ideal,” Matt says, and for that you’d probably need a wood-fired oven hot enough to cook a pizza in 60 seconds – which Italians will tell you is the best cooking time for a perfect crust. But any of the ovens below will enable you to create a freshly-made pizza far superior to anything you’ll buy in a supermarket.
