It seems only yesterday that England were left heartbroken in a World Cup semi-final by South Africa. But in truth, that was nearly two-and-a-half months ago and the long build-up up to the 2027 tournament has already started.
Steve Borthwick’s first hurdle is the Six Nations and today’s announcement of the squad he will take into England’s first fixture – against Italy on February 3 – has been feverishly anticipated.
We do already have an insight into Borthwick’s thoughts ahead of his announcement. Jamie George, a stalwart of the international side for nearly a decade, will captain the side, while there will be recalls for the likes of Henry Slade and Luke Cowan-Dickie.
But it is at the more experienced end of the spectrum where the interest really lies. Immanuel Feyi-Waboso and Ethan Roots – both of Exeter Chiefs stock – appear likely to receive first call-ups, while the likes of Fin Smith and Alfie Barbeary have made strong cases due to excellent club form.
The full squad is expected to be released around 10am, stay with us for full reaction…
